NATURAL MYSTIC

Natural Mystic functions as a threshold, into a working practice guided by intuition, by the impulse to surface themes and images that seemed to await their emergence into tangible media. In this project, Alquichire draws from the primal source, turning inward, probing the subconscious and pointing toward the hidden dimensions of personal and universal knowledge. The artworks  — including The Shadow into the Abyss, The Shining, The Mystery and the Wolves, Wild Horses, When the Blue Gods Whisper, and Visio Lux Vivens (Vision of the Living Light) — offer clues toward a perceptual transformation that gestures to another state of being: a world beyond everyday reality, where silence and pause prevail, where time flows differently, and where spaces fold and unfold like tunnels between connected universes. Viewers are drawn into an inner narrative and visual cosmos, encountering portals that open onto mystery, melancholy, and the oneiric — space-time collages of dualities and hybridizations, unfolding within a crepuscular dream from which one might awaken at any moment.

Referencing art-historical lineages — such as Russian Constructivism or Chronophotography — has been a defining modus operandi in earlier series, including Carbograma (2015) and 333 (2016). Natural Mystic arises from certain historical-artistic obsessions, such as Neoclassicism in the late 18th century, and Romanticism and Symbolism in the 19th. Elements drawn from this re-reading of the past create recognizable scenarios to which we might initially cling, only to discover visions strangely inserted into what once felt familiar. Alongside these references, the mystical poetry of Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179) and San Juan de la Cruz (1542–1591) intertwines with formal explorations in a pursuit of spiritual depth through art. Ruined architecture, recurring mountain landscapes, and silent forests, together with geometric symbols and the pervasive blue that stains the unreality of the images, evoke cinematic associations. Each sequence is inhabited by beings who seem to move freely in and out of the scene: figures dissolving into the sublime scale of their surroundings, and power animals — the deer, the wolf, the horse — leaving an imprint of timelessness that reconnects us with both inner and outer nature. These characters appear on the verge of being consumed by the very fantasy they traverse, suspended in a final instant of stillness before something compels them to flee.

Alquichire’s practice gains particular resonance in a moment when art seeks to assert its urgency — to carry the artist’s consciousness and intention within a contemporaneity that often sells the illusion that nothing further need be made, that everything is already given : texts, images, and ideas are generated in the entrails of a ubiquitous digital beast.  In this project, we encounter the necessity of conjuring imaginaries bound to history, to literature, to territories and landscapes, and to all that shapes human experience — and with it, the capacity to tell stories that hold both spiritual and material essence.
